Thank you everyone for checking in on me. I am not posting these photos to add stress to people’s emotions but to help explain to my friends where I was when this happened and how I survived. I have been in Hana for the last 24 hours and completely removed from danger and surrounded by the love of my friends.

I was alone on Front Street at the shop when the evacuation notice came. The second picture is what it looked like when when I left at around 4:30 pm. The last picture was taken that night when we lost Front Street.

The hardest part was that we had no cell service or internet to know what was happening for the community, where they were or how we could help them.

I can see now that everyone’s stress was amplified and decision making was challenged by the immensity of the winds. Everything felt wild and chaotic even before the fires hit. We helped as many people as we could on the way and there a small measure of hopeful solace in that. But we just didn’t have any information.

I am so devastated to imagine what people endured.

I lost Sunshine Market, my condo and car but many lost their lives and loved ones. There are a lot of people still at risk and the situation is very serious. We are currently getting supplies together to go back and assist. Thank you to everyone who has offered support. I will keep you posted.
